Education, skills and wages

This chapter examines both the general educational characteristics such as level and subject, and the specific nature of the skills acquired through education. It investigates the match between the attained and required education, in terms of educational level, educational subject and types of skills. The chapter explores what extent deficiencies and surpluses relating to the education taken and the skills acquired in this way affect wages. It discusses the data source used for estimating the models and the way in which clusters of skills were formed. The chapter explains descriptive statistical data of the research population and the experienced discrepancies in the three distinct areas of the occupational domain of a type of education. It describes firstly whether there are any discrepancies with respect to the subject of education and the level of education. The chapter outlines the discrepancies in terms of deficiencies of specific skills in the distinct areas of the occupational domain of a course.
