Research interests

Edgar van Mil is a pediatric endocrinologist working in the Jeroen Bosch Hospital in 's-Hertogenbosch where he is founder and leader of the Children's Centre for Lifestyle Medicine, which is a EASO Centre of Obesity Management. His research career started at the Children's Exercise and Nutrition Centre at the McMaster University, Hamilon, Ontario, Canada (prof. O. Bar-Or) and was continued at research institute NUTRIM, Maastricht University (prof W.H.M Saris and prof K.R. Westerterp). After his thesis entitled Energy Metabolism in Childhood Obesity (2000) he continued is clinical training in pediatrics, endocrinology and diabetes at the hospitals Catharina Hospital Eindhoven, Wilhelmina Children's Hospital Utrecht and VuMedical Centre Amsterdam. In 2015 he co-authored a handbook describing an intergrated medical and psychosocial approach in the care for children with obesity, which provided the basis for the 2018 released national care standard for children with overweight and obesity. He has an appointment as professor in a special chair Youth, Food and Health at the faculty of Science and Engineering, Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo.
