Abstract
Bicycling is not only about technology, physical exercise, traffic infrastructure and sustainability. Wheeling also has a history and, as such, a social and cultural dimension. After briefly explaining how the bicycle was invented and introduced in society in the late nineteenth century, this article focuses on the social and cultural impact of this vehicle in the Western world.
