Abstract

The European Court of Justice has played a prominent role in the process of integration in the European Union (EU), especially in interpreting rules that have a general application such as the competition provisions of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU). Although the letter of these provisions has hardly changed since the establishment of the European Economic Community in 1958, their interpretation and application have evolved significantly in response to market, technological and policy developments
