Abstract
Two years ago, I started on a mission to make my house more sustainable. I filled the cavities in the walls of my 1970s-built house with insulation, I added thicker insulation to my roof areas along with blocks of sedum plants and replaced some windows with triple glazing. And, I added 14 solar panels - which I lovingly called my “anti-authoritarian dictatorship panels.” I do not want to support the autocracy that oil wealth too often fosters in a long list of countries, which are mostly associated with OPEC.
Now you know that I was really chuffed with my solar panels this February, as Putin invaded Ukraine. I even bragged to a neighbor that I was ahead of the game. Getting the gist of my political goals as well as my environmental ones, he said, “they are your ‘fuck Putin’ panels!” And, indeed, that is exactly what I want to say to the Russian dictator!
