Abstract

Fruits and vegetables contain high levels of phytochemicals, minerals, and antioxidant nutrients, that may hold anti-carcinogenic properties. Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables will help to maintain a healthy body weight and thereby reducing the risk of cancer. Research on fruits and vegetables increased rapidly over the last few decades and evidence has shown that greater consumption of fruits and vegetables decreases the risk of bladder cancer. Although results from a few studies suggest a protective role of citrus fruits, pome fruits (e.g. apples), green leafy vegetables including cruciferous vegetables (e.g. broccoli), and yellow-orange vegetables (e.g. peppers) with bladder cancer risk, evidence relating to the consumption of subgroups of fruits and vegetables is still limited.
