Project Details

Description

This project explores mechanisms for promoting multilateralism in international investment and trade. In particular, it focuses on the interaction between the international rule of law, investment dispute settlement and sustainable development. This project revolves around the framework of bilateral negotiations of the EU-China Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI) that serves as a case study for developing a multilateral investment policy approach. The project encompasses 3 policy forums and a conference, complemented with 2 interactive workshops, and provides timely and relevant research work in a clear and readily accessible format, which will be disseminated through specialised networks to academic researchers, policymakers and trade negotiators in the EU and China. The project is carried out by the Maastricht University (UM) in cooperation with two Chinese universities: Wuhan University (WHU) and East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) in Shanghai. It brings together leading multi-disciplinary researchers, including emerging scholars. The envisaged duration of the project is two years (2020-2022).
