Abstract
On a daily basis, men and women are confronted with numerous messages concerning the importance of their physical appearance. These pressures can then contribute to a negative body image. Jessica Alleva describes how these pressures can be counteracted by focusing not on how the body looks, but what it can do, and explores how this shift can lead to a much healthier body image
