Abstract
The neurobiology and involvement of glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta in individual susceptibility to depression was studied in a new model of enhanced memory of adversity. It was shown for the first time, that diiodothyronine hormone, vitamin B1 and its precursor benfotiamine have an antidepressant effect. That suggests their use as supplementary therapy. Also, the antidepressant imipramine used in much lower doses than commonly, prevented depressive-like changes of mice. This can help to refine the dose of this antidepressant in the clinical practice.
