Abstract

For the economic evaluation of healthcare interventions, it's important to consider the costs and benefits in the healthcare sector and other sectors as well. This is known as intersectoral costs and benefits (ICB). Understanding these ICBs is essential to ensuring the proper allocation of scarce resources in the healthcare sector.
This dissertation is one of the first of its kind and proposes methods for identifying, classifying and evaluating ICBs. In doing so, it supports the implementation and assessment of the economic evaluations carried out by researchers and policymakers. The initial application of these methods reveal that ICBs can leave an important mark on the results of such evaluations.
