Abstract

Sustainable community health promotion: what is it and which factors play a role? the sustainability of dutch community health promotion is not guaranteed and the concept is subjective to many definitions and interpretations. The purpose of this article is to clearify the concept of sustainability for dutch community health promotion and to give an overview of factors from the literature that are known to influence it. The conceptual framework of sustainability, in which shediac-rizkallah and bone presented three dimensions of the concept (maintaining health benefits, routinization, and community capacity attributes), was found to be useful for the dutch context. Factors influencing sustainability were found on seven categories involved in community organization: context, leading organization, leadership, collaboration, collaborating partners, interventions and outcomes. For each factor a reflection is given on the dutch situation. Despite the overlap in the dimensions of sustainability and factors influencing these, we made a rough estimation for which factors were possibly more related to each seperate dimension.keywords: health in all policies (hiap), directing integrated local health policy, the role of the manager, intersectoral collaboration, local health policy.
