Abstract

In this chapter, we address the combination of functional mri (fmri) with other neuroimaging modalities. The concept of multimodal imaging can mean different things to different people, but in our mind fundamentally implies that the multimodal measurements in question are focused on the same region of interest. Therefore, spatial co-registration of the data is a necessary element of multimodal imaging. Although this viewpoint is mainly that of the methodologist, this chapter does not discuss spatial co-registration methodologies comprehensively. Instead, we consider the motivations for multimodal imaging, the various degrees of acquisition synchrony and mathematical concepts of data fusion, in the hope that investigators will gain insights into the various options available and also possibly to inspire new ways of combining data.keywordsdata fusioncerebral blood volumearterial spin labellingbold signallocal field potentialthese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
