Abstract

Air distribution systems in operating rooms contribute to the reduction of postoperative wound infections. The studies in this thesis deal with the effective use of unidirectional airflow systems (UDF system). The thesis investigates which air-protecting distribution systems in operating rooms and decking rooms offer practical reduction of air pollution. The studies were carried out under varying circumstances and with the application of differing measures. Results show that the contamination of the surgical wounds and the sterile instruments, and the chance of developing postoperative wound infections can be reduced. The research carried out provides insight into how UDF systems can be designed, applied and used effectively.
