Abstract

Exposure is one of the most effective interventions in the treatment of anxiety problems, but it is underused in clinical practice. Virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) appear to be effective, acceptable and practical ways of offering exposure, and could potentially address this underuse. However, important barriers that practitioners still experience when deploying VR/AR is its cost and a lack of knowledge about the possibilities in terms of hardware and software. This contribution therefore includes an overview of a number of low-threshold and budget-friendly VR/AR applications for exposure. We hope this will give practitioners the necessary guidance when they want to make use of VR/AR in their treatments for anxiety problems.
