Abstract

This paper shows how the Unified Modeling Language (UML) can be configured for requirements gathering. We will give a UML modeling dialect that can be used for this purpose combined with an existing requirements modeling methodology (Object Role Modeling (ORM)) that we will use as a 'front-end' to UML for requirements gathering. Finally we will define rules for mapping 'semantic-rich' ORM models onto 'optimal' UML models in which every applicable UML modeling construct can be used.
