Abstract
The information system on education and the labour market, developed by the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA), is intended to provide up-to-date data and mediumterm forecasts of the position of occupations and types of education on the Dutch labour market. This information is used first of all for vocational and educational guidance. Adequate information on this point is an essential requirement if the labour market is to function well. For the government, the social partners and the educational field the data is also of immediate importance as a basis for policies focusing on particular types of education or occupations. The advantage of the information system in this regard is particularly that the different characteristics of the position of occupations and types of education on the labour market are considered in a coherent way. This chapter discusses the market position of occupations and types of education on the basis of data from this information system.
