Abstract

This article examines the changing relationship between European and Chinese wind power firms. It shows that fierce competition between the lead firms in this industry co-exists with cooperation between Chinese wind turbine makers and European knowledge intensive business services. These relationships of cooperation come to light once we open up the value chain, in particular the innovation part. The article shows that unpacking the innovation process and unpacking changes over time is essential for bringing to light inter-firm cooperation across the Europe-China divide.
