Abstract

This book contains the proceedings of an international colloquium in honour of Professor Walter van Gerven, held in Leuven on 15-16 September 2000 and organized by the Universities of Leuven and Maastricht in the framework of the Ius Commune Research School.

The book is built around three themes: good governance in the European Union, judicial review of administrative action and liability of supranational, State and private actors. To illustrate the multifaceted nature of these themes, this book gives in each of the three main chapters an oversight of a national point of view and the EU perspective.

The book includes contributions from a great number of very distinguished: Lord Slynn of Hadley, Deirdre Curtin, Christiaan W.A. Timmermans, Gil Carlos Rodríguez Iglesias, Sacha Prechal, Jürgen Schwarze, Takis Tridimas, Bruno de Witte, Jeremy Lever, Pierre Larouche, Francis G. Jacobs, Luc Gyselen, Paul J.G. Kapteyn, Arthur Hartkamp and Pieter verLoren van Themaat.

The excellent contributions, a well-organized table of contents and index, as well as a table of cases and abbreviations make this book a unique venue and a worthily tribute to one of Europe's greatest scholars.
