Serious irregularities and errors in the determination of the surface free energy and acido-basicity of MXene materials

Abstract

In a recent paper, serious errors were made by Guo et al. in their study on the surface free energy and acido-basicity of MXene materials by inverse gas chromatography at infinite dilution recently published in Carbon. The authors committed several serious errors in the determination of the London dispersive surface energy (?sL) and Lewis acid-base parameters of solid materials. They used a wrong equation to determine ?sL, neglected the entropic contribution, and used inhomogeneous units of the acid-base constants. A correction of the surface properties of these materials was made in this paper by using more accurate thermodynamic equations.
