Abstract

Sarcoidosis presents with a multisystem inflammatory condition characterized by uveitis and other neuroimmune and neurodegenerative manifestations. Ophthalmic involvement may present as orbital, intraocular, or adnexal inflammation. Sarcoidosis can also present as an ophthalmic emergency, requiring aggressive therapy with antiinflammatory agents such as pulsed intravenous corticosteroids. The ocular signs and symptoms of sarcoidosis may be associated with various neurological manifestations. Therefore, an integrated approach with close collaboration among ophthalmologists, neurologists, and pathologists is required to ensure optimal patient care. Appropriate treatment of sarcoidosis can help in preserving not only the vision but also the lives of the patients.
