Abstract

Since its introduction by Brindley 40 years ago, electrical neurostimulation of the sacral anterior roots has been a valid treatment option for bladder storage and emptying disorders in patients with spinal cord injury. Nowadays, it still is a valid option for well-selected patients. In this chapter we describe the different indications, surgical approaches, and most recent results with this technique, as well as the pros and cons of its application. We finally discuss the potential future developments with this procedure.
