Abstract

VOI analyses aim to support decisions around research prioritisation and design and can be used to explore the sensitivity of decisions to parameter uncertainty. However, it is important to accurately and appropriately communicate the results of these VOI analyses, to ensure that research is correctly prioritised. This is critical, as decision making and research prioritisation are supported by a range of stakeholders such as policy makers, clinicians and patients who do not have in-depth expertise in VOI methods. Thus, this Chapter focuses on methods for improving the communication and reporting of VOI analyses. Firstly, we focus on the appropriate reporting of the results of VOI analysis in peer-reviewed publications and technical reports through the CHEERS-VOI checklist, which specifies the minimal and essential items for reporting VOI alongside health economic evaluations. We then focus on methods and graphical presentations for communicating the implications of the VOI analysis to non-technical stakeholders.
