Abstract

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common occurrence among critically ill patients. When medical interventions fail to address hydrophilic toxin clearance and severe electrolyte and acid-base imbalances, renal replacement therapy (RRT) offers a safe and effective treatment option. RRT options include intermittent, hybrid, and continuous therapies, with international guidelines favouring continuous therapy, particularly for haemodynamically unstable patients in critical care settings. The selection of RRT modality is primarily based on the patient’s haemodynamic status, with each type of therapy differing in prescription parameters and recommended indications.
