Abstract

This thesis's main aim was to investigate patient-specific variables in the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative period, with the aim of improving these patients' care.
Preoperative studies aimed to identify factors that influence a patient's ability to return to work after hysterectomy. We looked for variables that influence sexual function after a hysterectomy. An intervention aimed at potentially reducing postoperative pain was investigated. In addition, we evaluated the safety and feasibility of the immediate removal of urinary catheters after hysterectomy.
The feasibility of same-day discharge after a hysterectomy has been investigated, with the intention not to compromise recovery and/or quality of life after the operation. We conducted a meta-analysis of the sexual function before and after hysterectomy, where we examined the influence of the surgical route, removal of the cervix and simultaneous removal of the ovaries.
