Abstract

The decade of the 1960s was a crucial period in Franco-German relations. Although the Élysée Treaty of 1963 formalized cooperation between the two countries, fundamental disagreements remained on a range of political interests. Drawing upon French and German archival sources, Carine Germond analyzes the influences of this relationship within the development of the European Community and the détente of East-West relations.
