Abstract

Poor performance by physicians in training to become medical specialists can harm patients unnecessarily. A specific regulation of the Dutch College of Medical Specialists (CGS) prescribes how program directors of residents’ postgraduate training programs should deal with dysfunctional performance in resident-physicians. How this regulation functioned in practice was formerly insufficiently investigated. The authors conducted research and elucidated areas for improvement in the intersection of health, employment, and education.
