Abstract
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has emerged as a therapeutic approach for a range of neurological and psychiatric disorders, building upon an intricate understanding of the neurophysiology of individual neurons up to neural networks. This chapter investigates (1) the clinical use of intra-operative neurophysiological recordings, focusing on invasive recording of local field potential (LFP) as microelectrode recordings (MER), and (2) the contribution of neurophysiological recordings in DBS to our understanding of human neurophysiology and behavior. This chapter bridges the gap between core neuroscience and clinical application, illustrating how neurophysiology in DBS not only improves patient care but also deepens our understanding of the human brain.
