Abstract

This PhD research investigates how to better understand and support efforts aimed at creating lasting, positive changes in society, particularly through social innovation. It focuses on grassroots initiatives that are rooted in local communities but connected through global networks, striving to find new, fair, and sustainable ways of organizing society to address urgent global challenges. The research builds on the theory of Transformative Social Innovation (TSI) and develops the 3D framework, which helps guide and measure the impact of these efforts. By studying real-world examples of community-driven sustainability projects, the research shows how people and organisations that build networks among social innovation initiatives can help these initiatives grow, make deeper changes, and remain resilient over time. It develops and applied a practical tool that offers guidance on how to lead, learn, and collaborate effectively to achieve long-lasting transformation.
