Abstract

Although extraovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinomas resemble primary ovarian carcinomas, both histologically and clinically, their specific etiology is not clear. This is the first report to show neoplastic transformation of endocervicosis into an extraovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma. The histologic spectrum and specific KRAS mutational analysis for this tumor were the same as for their ovarian counterparts. This supports a mullerian origin and the current approach to extrapolate the results from ovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma trials in prescribing treatment for patients with extraovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinomas.
