Abstract
Hailey-Hailey disease, also referred to as benign familial
pemphigus, is a rare genodermatosis that results in painful
erosions in erythematous plaques in the skin creases.
Heat, sweat and friction usually worsen the disease.
Beside pain, morbus Hailey-Hailey also restricts patients
activities. Topical or systemic treatment aims to reduce
pain and itch, and to prevent flare ups. Ablative laser therapy
has been reported to eradicate disease in some cases
or cause partial remission in others. Here, we present
our results of Er:YAG ablative laser therapy in a patient
with Hailey-Hailey disease. Our patient experienced significant
improvement with no reported recurrences.
