Abstract

Introduction: it is important to determine which preconditions and success factors should be taken into account when developing lifestyle interventions for people with a low socioeconomic status (ses).method: dutch scientists in lifestyle change among people with a low ses were asked to reach consensus about the most important preconditions and success factors for lifestyle interventions for people with a low ses. Twenty-eight scientists participated in an online delphi study with three rounds.results: the scientists reached consensus about 22 of the 36 mentioned preconditions for a lifestyle intervention for people with a low ses. In summary, these preconditions imply that a good preparation of the development of lifestyle interventions is necessary. Interventions should take into account the environment and perceptions of the target group and they should involve the target group in the development. Furthermore, it is important that interventions have a low-threshold character and that intervention materials are understandable and not patronizing. Finally, it is important that interventions have a large reach and that they stay available on the long-term.conclusion: the results of this study give important directions for which preconditions are most important in the development of lifestyle interventions for target groups with a low ses.
