Abstract

In the dissertations written by Sanne van der Weegen and Renée Verwey a newly developed motion measurement system is being described used as part of the care people suffering from diabetes or COPD are provided with. An evaluative survey carried out among twenty-four GP practices showed that patients tend to exercise an extra eleven minutes daily on average. The motion measurement system connects wirelessly to a smartphone and online coaching system. An app shows the number of minutes a patient has exercised in relation to his or her personal goals. In the GP practice, the nurse practitioner is able to monitor the exercise results by means of a coaching system.
The study carried out by van der Weegen focusses on the development and usability testing of the app and the validation of the motion measurement system.
