Abstract
In this contribution, I discuss the most important development for the European Arrest Warrant, the Aranyosi jurisprudence, which created the possibility for courts to refuse execution on human rights’ grounds. I argue that the impact on mutual trust can be negative (short term) and positive (long term) under some conditions. Whereas presently mutual trust is decreased, the Aranyosi mechanism enables national authorities to build up a more sustainable trust, moving away from a ‘fake it till you make it’ mentality.
