Abstract
This study explores the impact of fatherhood on the speed of leave approval of 157 Dutch forensic psychiatric patients, focusing on whether fathers are granted leave sooner than non-fathers and how criminal history and socio-economic status (SES) affect this. Using regression analysis, the study found no significant differences between fathers and non-fathers in crime type, mental disorders, or demographics, and fatherhood did not correlate with expedited leave approval. SES and criminal history also had no effect on leave timing. These findings suggest fatherhood may not offer the same benefits in forensic populations as seen in general incarcerated populations.
