Abstract
The thesis had three main objectives. It aimed to provide comprehensive evidence on the prevalence and correlates related to overweight and obesity in Italian (and European) adults and children. Then, it assessed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on weight gain and physical activity in the general Italian population. In addition, the thesis also aimed at quantifying the attention given to excess body weight, physical activity and, in general, preventable behavioural risk factors in medical research.
