Abstract

Recreative use of laughing gas has been increasing in recent years. Because of the interaction of laughing gas with vitamin B12 metabolism, neurological symptoms can develop. These symptoms are polyneuropathy, myelopathy, or a combination of both. This article provides an overview of clinical symptoms due to the use of laughing gas, diagnosis of vitamin B12 when deficiency is suspected, additional
tests in case of neurological deficits, and the prognosis.
