Abstract

Dear editor, we would like to clarify one point in above mentioned manuscript in Table 1, right column (data on AEROSIL® _OX 50 fumed silica SAS2; surface area: 49 m 2/g), section histopathology. The present text states „increased incidence of fibrogenesis and interstitial fibrosis (HD)“. We would like to delete the statement on the increased incidence of fibrosis as this is based on a minimal single focus of interstitial fibrosis observed in the high dose group (5 mg SAS/m 3). For clarification of the relevance of this finding, the original pathology information states that “fibrogenesis in the lungs at increased incidence in both sexes >1.0 mg/m 3 SAS 2 due to still ongoing inflammatory processes, and minimal interstitial fibrosis in one animal at 5.0 mg/m 3” was observed. The report also states that “the single case of interstitial fibrosis mentioned is within the range of spontaneous lesions that may be recorded in Wistar rats at these ages but cannot be excluded with certainty to be related to previously mentioned inflammatory lesions considering still present inflammatory lesions with an increased incidence of associated fibrogenesis” and that “These new studies with high (SAS1) and low (SAS2) surface area pyrogenic SAS showed no lung fibrosis and accordingly no increase of collagen”. A copy of the corrected table is attached and we would like to publish this corrected table together with the text of the corrigendum. Würzburg, Aug. 24, 2023.
