Abstract

The concluding chapter draws out some of the consequences relating to the contribution of judicial decisions and processes (in particular, those of the European courts) to the legitimacy of EU environmental governance as a whole. It brings together the assessments of the contributors to the volume through the lens of two issues, not only for the courts but for the EU political system in general. First, in what ways does context appear to modulate the courts’ apparent understanding of the proper judicial role and, second, how does the environment per se seem to be influencing that understanding.
