Abstract
Patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) have a higher risk of comorbidities than the general population, which may occur in isolation or as a consequence of systemic inflammatory activity and/or its treatment. 1 Comorbidities in these patients are associated with greater deterioration in quality of life, worse clinical outcomes and response to treatment, decreased work activity, higher mortality, and increased health costs. Among the most frequent comorbidities in patients with axSpA are: cardiovascular (CV) disease and its risk factors (hypertension, obesity, and metabolic syndrome), psychiatric disorders (such as depression and anxiety), neoplastic diseases, and osteoporosis.
