Abstract
Mary Cover Jones, “the mother of behavior therapy,” was among the first to apply the behavioral treatment principles to anxious children. This article describes the history and evolution of behavior therapy as a treatment for children and adolescents with anxiety disorders. An overview will be provided on the status of the efficacy and effectiveness of (cognitive) behavior therapy for this target population, and a number of possible directions will be highlighted for further improving the effects of this intervention.
