Abstract

In this chapter, we will present two cases of patients with deep brain stimulation (DBS) who prefer to have online consultations with the neurologist or DBS nurse to optimize or change their DBS settings. Current use, challenges, and limitations of remote DBS programming will be discussed. After reading the chapter, readers know about the potential benefits of remote DBS programming, including enhanced patient convenience, reduced travel burdens, and improved accessibility to healthcare. The cases presented illustrate successful instances of patients opting for online consultations with neurologists or DBS nurses to optimize their DBS settings. The challenges and limitations of remote DBS programming are discussed, highlighting factors such as device malfunction, security risks, and technical issues.
