Abstract
Autoantibodies against nuclear antigens, like antinuclear antibodies, anti-dsDNA antibodies and anti-ENA antibodies, play an important role in the diagnosis of systemic autoimmune diseases. The great diversity in techniques available and the way test results are reported can influence correct interpretation of the results. Therefore, continuous communication between the clinician and the laboratory specialist is mandatory for optimal health care.
