Abstract
Mastectomy is a surgery to remove the breast in case of breast cancer. It is one of the surgical options for breast cancer. Mastectomy is not a single surgical procedure, and surgical technique may vary significantly between patients and surgeons. This might include preservation of the breast skin to different amount with or without and the nipple-areola complex to facilitate breast reconstruction at time of the mastectomy procedure (= immediate breast reconstruction). Radiation therapy is part of local anti-cancer therapy which might be indicated for patients after mastectomy. Radiation therapy after mastectomy, might lead to increase complications of breast reconstruction and even loss of the reconstructed breast. The work done in this thesis aimed to improve radiation therapy in case of mastectomy by identifying high risk volumes for local recurrence and guide local therapy.
