Abstract

Brachytherapy uses radiation sources in contact with the tumor to eliminate it whilst preserving healthy tissues. This technique has been under continuous development for more than a century now. However, important technical challenges need to be overcome before a definitive clinical implementation of the recently developed technologies can be realized. This study aims to improve treatment accuracy developing tools and studding patient complexities that can lead to better treatment outcome. This research was performed in two countries, Brazil and the Netherlands, in collaboration with hospitals from Sweden and Belgium. It demonstrates an international interest in brachytherapy and its potential applications.
