Abstract

In recent years, CT scanners have increasingly improved, enabling us to depict the coronary arteries increasingly better and more detailed using a lower dose of radiation. However, the injection protocols for contrast agent administration have remained the same. Each patient, irrespective of height and weight, is administered the same amount of contrast agent with a standard injection speed. As a consequence, an unnecessarily large amount of contrast agent is administered to a large portion of the patients. This thesis has identified the main aspects of the contrast-injection protocol influencing the staining of the coronary arteries. As a result, the contrast-injection protocol can be tailored to the patient’s weight and heart rate.
