Description

The 7th Annual Psyche Awards: Honoring the Most Valuable Papers in Mental Health Care / Legal and Ethical Issues in Mental Health Care / Journal of Contemporary Psychotherapy

2023: The comprehensive screening of 169 scholarly journals identified 128 articles that appeared to address important issues in mental illness, and were sorted into 13 award categories, with four, and occasionally five, articles nominated as the finalists in each category. Then, an award review panel was comprised of four members of the editorial board for the Journal of Contemporary Psychotherapy, all long-time clinicians and scholars. The panel of judges read and rated the final list of 53 nominated papers. All reviewers were asked to submit rank-ordered lists, rating papers within each category from most to least valuable to the average mental health scientist-practitioner.

Every psychotherapy session can involve legal or ethical issues. Competent mental health professionals are well-informed about potential problems and prepared to manage difficult situations with care and sensitivity. The award highlights essential topics relevant to a wide range of clinicians. For this category, no clear winner was identified. A working knowledge of legal matters can be vitally important when problems arise. The papers provide solid grounding for enhancing a broad awareness of key legal issues that can affect psychotherapy.
