Students of Liberal Education programs are often asked to explain what their education is about and to justify its practical utility. This often causes them great frustration and anxiety. This presentation will argue that Liberal Education is actually exceedingly useful in the 21st century, from an economic, civic and personal perspective. It will focus on the importance of what has been called "reflective judgment", i.e. judgment where there are contradictory rules that might be applied to a problem, demonstrating both the importance of such judgment and how Liberal Education teaches students how to make reflective judgments.
