The Future of UM Post-COVID-19

Description

The persisting COVID-19 crisis challenges all of us with shifting uncertainties and unanswered questions. Part of our mission as the Maastricht Young Academy is to listen to the concerns of young researchers, to represent your interests, and advise the University on policy directions in areas that affect your futures.

Though we cannot promise any specific outcomes, we routinely meet directly with our Rector and share your voice and inputs with her. This online brainstorming and information gathering session is to listen to your concerns, while at the same time, to offer young researchers the opportunity to interact with colleagues from all of the UM faculties who may be in similar predicaments as you are.

We would like to invite you to an online brainstorm session on these topics and our futures in academic research post-COVID-19. The MYA focuses our efforts on four specific pillars: 1) science policy, 2) science communication, 3) interdisciplinary research, and 4) internationalisation. Some starting questions might be:

-How is the COVID-19 crisis changing the landscape of policy on science in the Netherlands? What changes do we hope to see?
-What channels for scientific communication are entering public discourse? How do we want to develop them?
-Is interdisciplinary research contributing to solving this crisis? Are there new possibilities emerging for it?
-What challenges do we face for internationalising our university and our research networks in post-COVID-19 academic work?

In addition to these specific questions or areas covered by our four pillars, we are also curious to hear about other issues and concerns that may be on your mind. So we hope that you will come share them with us and to take this opportunity to band together and rise above!
