Presentation on "REMIT project’s objectives, preliminary findings, and its roadmap for continued engagement," at REMIT Scenario Testing Workshop on Military AI at Erasmus University Rotterdam

Erasmus University College in Rotterdam hosted two high-level Scenario-Testing Workshops on 3 and 17 June 2025 for REMIT Research, convening 24 mid- and senior-level experts and policymakers to examine the future of artificial intelligence (AI) in the military domain and its implications for European security.

Led by Professor Michal Onderco of Erasmus University Rotterdam, the workshops employed a scenario-testing methodology developed by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre. Participants adopted the role of key global actors, ranging from private companies, major state powers, to international organisations, which enabled them to simulate complex decision-making processes in four distinct AI-driven future scenarios.

These scenarios were designed by Professor Onderco in collaboration with Dr Katja Creutz and Dr Ville Sinkkonen of the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA), building on a strategic blueprint developed by Professor Roberta Haar of Maastricht University.

The sessions concluded with in-depth presentations from Professor Haar (3 June) and Professor Onderco (17 June), outlining the REMIT project’s objectives, preliminary findings, and its roadmap for continued engagement. Attendees were encouraged to stay involved with REMIT’s future research and policy-shaping initiatives.
